Deck Building

Are you ready to take the plunge?

This is the time of year when many homeowners finally jump in with both feet and decide to install a pool or hot tub in their yard.  Visions of family barbecues, umbrella drinks and casual pool side parties are very exciting for the entire family.

There’s a lot more to consider, however, than just the pool itself!  That’s because the pool is just the beginning of your backyard transformation.  Finishing it off with stonework, landscaping and fencing are important for both safety and aesthetics, and should be key components in planning and budgeting for your new addition.

Stonework

There are countless options for finishing your pool deck.  Natural stone, pavers or even poured concrete can be good solutions for creating a safe, non-slip area to enter and exit in ground pools and hot tubs.  Choose finishes with texture for grip and stability and avoid shiny or slick surfaces that could pose a hazard.  Ensure stonework is professionally installed so that the entire surround comes out level and there are no tripping concerns around your pool.

Decking

If you are installing an above-ground pool or hot tub, it’s a good idea to build decking around it both for visual appeal and comfort for entry and exit.  It also allows for a social area for those who may want to sit by the pool without actually getting in.

Lighting

Custom lighting in your landscape design is a great addition to allow for night time use of your property, and also adds interest and charm showing off not just your pool, but also any gardens or unique features in your yard as well.  Not only that, but it provides a safety function so that the pool area is clearly defined when it is dark outside.

Fencing

Fencing around your yard – and even around your pool if you have small children – is an absolute must.  Options are limitless – from wood privacy fences to wrought iron security gates, the sky is the limit.

Landscaping

Finishing off your yard with professional landscaping is the perfect way to complete your makeover.  Features such as shrubs, trees, waterfalls and stone retaining walls can help to add privacy, while planting flower gardens and installing grass provide colour and interest to your newly renovated space.
